Kismat

Kismat Chepang, the son of Bal Bahadur Chepang and Thammaya Chepang, entered the world in 2014 AD in Gandaki Bhulinchoak Gurkha, the epicenter of April earthquake 2015, situated in the hills outside the Kathmandu Valley. Coming into the impoverished Chepang community, known as one of the poorest indigenous groups in Nepal, Kismat's family has faced considerable challenges. The Chepang people, characterized by their semi-nomadic history, have struggled with the rugged terrain, making permanent farming challenging. The forest has remained a crucial source of sustenance for the Chepang. Unfortunately, factors such as forced teenage pregnancies and limited access to education beyond elementary school have contributed to their plight.

Tragedy struck Kismat's family two years ago when his father passed away while he was mining rocks .  He was living with his grandparents and mother. His guardian was illiterate. His mother is physically disabled. After the death of his father, they faced a big problem feeding themselves.

Kismat was brought to Hopeful Home Orphanage by Dal Bahadur Chepang who works as an activities manager in the orphanage.

Despite his challenging background, Kismat exudes a positive attitude. He finds joy living in the orphanage, playing drum and flutes, listening to Nepali songs,  happy with enough eating. Known for his infectious smile, Kismat looks forward to make fun with his friends.

Currently enrolled in grade 2 at United Preparatory English Boarding School, he faced a late start in his education journey, making progress slowly. Despite the difficulties, he remains determined to overcome challenges and build a brighter future for himself.

Ramila

Ramila Pariyar, born in July 2012 in the remote Khatyad Rural Municipality of Mugu District, Nepal, comes from a marginalized ethnic group facing generations of poverty and discrimination. Her parents, Dhan Bahadur and Hanshu Pariyar, worked tirelessly—her father as a tailor and seasonal worker in

northern India, and her mother managing the household—but struggled to provide for their family.

Recognizing Ramila's limited prospects in Mugu, her maternal grandmother brought her to Kathmandu and placed her in Hopeful Home, an orphanage offering education and care for underprivileged children. Now in grade 3, Ramila is excelling academically and dreams of becoming a soldier in the Nepali Army to serve her nation.

Her story is one of resilience and the transformative power of education, showcasing how opportunities can ignite hope and inspire change.

Bibek Bhujel

Bibek Bhujel born in March 2011 in Bhaktapur, Nepal, he faced challenges from the start. His parents, Sita Ram and Kamala Bhujel, are mute and deaf, working as caretakers of cattle in Bhaktapur to make ends meet. Living in a small, rented hut near Hopeful Home orphanage, they struggled to provide for

their newborn. Moved by their plight, a caregiver from the orphanage stepped in, offering food and nutrition support

for Bibek. With their help, he grew stronger and joined the other children at the orphanage.

Now in grade 5, Bibek is an average student with a cheerful and funny personality. His laughter and sociability make him a beloved part of his school and community. Bibek’s story highlights resilience and the transformative power of support, showing how compassion can help a child thrive against the odds.
